The previous two Man of Steel trailers showed audiences Superman was back – in an artsy, serious film way. The trailers were interesting and enticing for sure – but fans everywhere started to question if there would be any action in this film. After all, what is a superhero film without seeing the protagonist kick some baddie ass?
Well, with the third trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot , we can all breathe a sigh of relief – then immediately hold our breath. The action is definitely here – and it looks awesome.
Henry Cavill flying as Superman, Michael Shannon yelling as Zod, Amy Adams washing the horrid taste of Lois Lane out of mouths after what Kate Bosworth did to her, Russell Crowe embracing Jor-El as mentor and father – there is nothing in this trailer that doesn’t give me goosebumps. Quite simply, I love it, because for all the superheroes created, all of their desires for revenge for past wrongs, Superman has always embraced the true idea of hope and goodness overcoming evil.
Perhaps because in recent months – years – we’ve seen the incredibly dark side of human nature, but also ordinary people being extraordinarily heroic in the aftermath of tragedy. ”He will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive toward” is a line from Jor-El about Superman. I’d believe this is something that could be said about the inherent good in most people.
Superman gives the world hope, and that’s something we can all sorely use right now, even if it’s just a little bit of it in movie escapism.
Is it June 14 yet?
