Rob Reiner has been working on an adaption of Dustin Lance Black’s play “8″ which he put on in L.A. and NYC last year, since the play’s debut. It’s now being reported that the Supreme Court’s discussions on marriage equality and the inevitable ruling on DOMA and Prop 8 has lit a fire under Black’s ass and he’s furiously working on the screenplay in anticipation of a quick rush to the movie set.
The L.A. version of the play originally starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Bomer, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Kevin Bacon and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The NYC version starred Cheyenne Jackson, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Morgan Freeman and was directed by Joe Mantello.
The big screen movie doesn’t have any named actors yet but I’m sure Reiner is already going through his roladex because he recently said in an interview that he wants the cameras rolling in June or July, obviously after the Supreme Court has made their rulings on the two cases before them.
