Last Sunday 40.3 million people watched First Lady, Michelle Obama make a surprise appearance, which was telecast from the White House, to announce the winner of the Best Picture award. Argo was the surprise winner and was the topic of conversation at the water cooler for the next few days.
What’s been the topic of conversation for even longer is the fact that Michelle Obama was the award presenter in the first place. People were talking about her dress, talking about the fact that her eyes were the first to see the big winner, talking about why she was there in the first place.
The First Lady said in response to the critics that she’s not surprised by the stir.
Shoot, my bangs set off a national conversation. My shoes can set off a national conversation. That’s just sort of where we are. We’ve got a lot of talking going on.
It’s like everybody’s kitchen-table conversation is now accessible to everybody else so there’s a national conversation about anything.
