Last Week the voice of Elmo, Kevin Clash, was accused by a man, who is now 23 years old, of having an inappropriate, sexual relationship with him when he was only 16 years-old. Obviously statutory rape is bad for Sesame Street, so even though an internal investigation resulted in zero evidence that the accuser, Sheldon Stephens, was underage, Kevin decided to take a small leave of absence from the show until everything was resolved.
Kevin always proclaimed his innocence, saying that Sheldon was an adult when they began their relationship. Then, a few days later, Sheldon and Kevin via their attorneys settled the whole action whereby Sheldon, again via his attorneys, released a statement that he was an adult when he was with Kevin in exchange for what is rumored to be a six-figure settlement.
Now, Sheldon is regretting the entire settlement and, according to him, was crying during the final negotiations and begged his attorneys not to make him. Sheldon says that he was underage when he was with Kevin and he wants to repair his reputation by undoing the settlement, even if that means that he gives back the money.
Reportedly, Sheldon, who is an aspiring model (but hell, who isn’t in these gossip stories) is shopping for a new attorney who will not force his signature to a settlement he apparently wanted no parts of.
There goes the relief Kevin felt about having this whole situation behind him.
