Celine Dion on Whitney Houston: “Bad People, Bad Influences Took Over Her Dreams”
Celine Dion called into Good Morning, America this morning to give her thoughts on what led to the untimely death of Whitney Houston.
She admitted Houston was “an amazing inspiration.”
“I actually wanted to have a career like hers, sing like her, look beautiful like her,” Dion revealed.
However, the powerhouse vocalists had two very different paths. ”It’s just very unfortunate that drugs and…I don’t know, bad people or bad influences took over.”
She compared Houston with the untimely deaths of other stars who got caught up in the fame and drug machine: Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse to name a few. Celine said because of what ultimately happened with those icons made her afraid of the Hollywood game.
“Is it because of stress and bad influence? What happens when you have everything? What happens when you have love, support, the family, motherhood”
Indeed, there is truth to her statement. I’ve wondered why things like this happen to so many stars. Is it the easy access to whatever you want as a star? Is it the people around you constantly telling you you’re better than everyone – and everything? You feel immortal because you feel better than most everything in life, that death seems to be only something that happens to someone else?
I don’t know, and neither does Celine, but that intangible is there. ”Something happens, and that’s why I’m so scared — I’m scared of show business. I’m scared of hanging out.”
