VH1 Drops Celebrity Rehab for Now – Maybe for Good
VH1 is not impressed with Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, it seems – and it’s decided to check out of the show.
For now.
The network hasn’t canceled the series, however there is no word on its return – or whether there will even be a return.
A VH1 exec told TheWrap that the Dr. Drew Pinksy headlined show “is not on the schedule.”
Yikes.
The show has had it’s share of controversy during it’s five season run. Last year, two former ‘patients’ of the series passed away. Grease star Jeff Conaway suffered a prescription drug overdose and Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr died at 44 years old, and just weeks after he’d been arrested with unauthorized prescription pills.
I say – good riddance! The premise of the show was horrible, and it whether these people were celebrities (most just barely), they’re still real people who are very troubled. People watched this show for the entertainment factor, which is just sad. The “ick” surrounding the series is just too much for me, especially because these people aren’t kicking the habit – and in some cases, they’re dying.
