U.S. Department of Justice Rips Down MegaUpload.com

The timing of this whole incident is rather funny considering yesterday many of us blacked out to protest SOPA and PIPA, but today it was reported that the FBI has charged seven employees of MegaUpload with copyright infringement and “conspiracy to commit racketeering.”

MegaUpload is essentially a file sharing site, which opens up a whole can of copyright infringement as you can imagine.

In 2009, Hong Kong banned all people surfing the Web with a Hong Kong IP address from accessing the site. China, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and India followed suit in recent years.

What’s interesting is that at some point MegaUpload realized that their company was shady and that they needed to team up with someone who could convince the people whose shit they were ripping to side with them. Their solution was to hire Swizz Beatz as the acting CEO of the company. Swizz Beatz as in Alica Keys’ husband. Random, I know.

MegaUpload via Swizz Beatz then brought on various artists to endorse MegaUpload. After it came out that MegaUpload was in trouble with the law, many of these artists pulled their endorsements, but the video remains – see below.

Oh boy!
