Dakota Fanning Ad Banned in UK
Dakota Fanning has found herself at the center of a controversy involving Britain’s media-watch-dog.
The actress, who is a favorite of designer Marc Jacobs, is the face of his ad for his perfume Oh, Lola! In the ad, the 17-year-old Fanning is waering a pink polka-dot, lacy dress against a pink background and holding Jacobs’ fragrance with a blossoming flower right over her crotch. The shoot is obviously a loose take on popular Lolita tale.
Okay, so when you really pay attention to the the ad, it may be a bit perverse. But you have to really look at it.
But to ban it all together? To be honest, I don’t get it. There’s no nudity. Granted, she’s 17, but 17-year-old models – and even younger – expose more skin and typically exude more ‘sexiness’ than this all the damn time and no one bats an eyelash. Hell, have you been outside of a high school recently? A lot of those girls girls come off trashier than this in first period.
Obviously, Jacob was trying to push the envelope a bit with this ad, but I don’t think he did it in that distasteful a way, to be honest. Or hell, maybe I’m desensitized and am used to seeing celeb nudes and sex tapes on a daily basis, so this is really not all that shocking.
What do you think? Was the UK right to ban this? Or was it a complete over reaction?
