Lifetime’s “The Pregnancy Pact” – Teen Pregnancy on the Rise.
The Pregnancy Pact“, which debuted on January 23rd, was “the most-watched basic cable film among adults 18-34 since 2002 and the highest-rated among women 18-34 since 1994.” The movie is based on a true story of a rumoured “pregnancy pact” between 17 teenage girls who decided to become pregnant in Gloucester, MA.
This movie coincides with the recent increase in teenage pregnancy. In 2006, the most recent year in which statistical data has been gathered, teenage pregnancy rose by 3%, which is the first time that rates have increased in more than ten years. There is speculation that this increase is linked to abstinence only education in many American schools. There is an obvious interest in teenage pregnancy within the general public, which can be seen in the popularity of this movie.
